Shiyu Bao MSc
PhD candidate Environmental Fluid Mechanics
Shiyu has a background in Harbor, Coastal and Offshore Engineering. She is passionate about hydrodynamic process in estuaries and now she is continuing her academic journey as a PhD candidate.
Her current research focuses on the hyper turbid environment in the Ems Estuary. She is particularly interested in understanding the interplay between flow dynamics and sediment transport and pursuing a method to inversely estimate suspended sediment concentration profiles using Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP). Through a combination of fieldwork and numerical modeling, she will attempt to reveal the mechanisms behind the asymmetry of sediment transport flux in the hyper-turbid Ems Estuary.
