At 28 and 29 February, Wageningen University hosted the annual NCR-Days. 130 river enthusiasts from different organizations gathered in Wageningen to present and discuss the most recent developments in the field of river studies. This year’s theme was ‘Tomorrows rivers’.
Around the theme of ‘Tomorrow’s rivers’, a nice program with was put together. Within six sub-themes, presentations were given on a wide variety of topics. Ranging from mountainous rivers to lowland deltas and from river morphodynamics to river ecology. New themes this year were ‘transport of plastics’ and ‘physics of estuaries’. Overall, there were 24 very interesting presentations and 24 beautiful posters, and the program was completed with 4 keynote speakers who all gave their perspective on the future of “our” rivers. Congratulations to Eki Liptiay and Anouk Boon for winning the best poster- and best presentation award!

Traditionally, the conference dinner took place on Wednesday evening. We had a very nice dinner, and a good opportunity for more interesting conversations in a more informal setting. Thanks to Young NCR for testing our (non-)riverine knowledge and our improvisation talents during their pubquiz.
Overall, the NCR-Days 2024 were a great success! Thanks to the organizing committee: Iris Niesten, Ton Hoitink, Hermjan Barneveld, Derk van Grootheest and Nazwa Tahsin. The next edition will be organized by Deltares in Delft.
